Martina Hingis - Greatest Tennis Player ever!


Martina Hingis, former No.1 WTA Rank player, won 14 Grand Slam titles, include five singles titles - Wimbledon (1997), US Open (1997) and Australian Open (1997, 1998, 1999). When she retired in 2003, at only 22, Martina Hingis held No.1 position for 209 weeks. Later in 2005 she tried an unsuccessful comeback, only to announced her permanent retirement in 2007, just after Wimbledon where she was tested positve drug test.

Martina Hingis Biography!

Martina Hingis is considered as one of the most talented tennis players of all-time. Her parents named her after the lengendery Martina Navratilova.

Martina Hingis was born on September 30, 1980 in Košice, Slovakia (former Czechoslovakia). Her father Karoly Hingis and mother Melanie Molitorova were accomplished tennis players. This helped Martina Hingis to began hitting tennis balls when she was just two years old and started competing in tournaments at the age of four.

At 12, Martina Hingis become the youngest player to win a Grand Slam junior title when she won the French Open girls' singles.

Since then Martina Hingis won five Grand Slam singles titles, nine Grand Slam Doubles titles before retiring at 22 (in year 2002), due to ligament injuriy. Also Martina bagged 40 singles WTA titleas and 36 doubles titles.

In July 2005, Martina Hingis returned to tennis arena and registered her career 500th singles victory in the quarterfinals of the Italian Open (defeating Top 20 player Pennetta). The same tournament become her 41st WTA Tour singles title, which came after four years.

Martina Hingis become the youngest player to become World No.1 on March 1997 and after her come back currently ranked No. 15.
